Barcelona
Barcelona is a city on the coast of North-Eastern Spain, located on the Costa Brava which owes its name of "Wild Coast" to the uniqueness of the sudden encounter between mountain and sea. It is an absolutely beautiful city with large beaches lined with bars and restaurants, and a large marina and harbour at the Southern end which is adjacent to the “Fisherman’s District”.
Founded as a Roman city in the Middle Ages, it has one of Europe’s largest, best-preserved medieval quarters, and the finest collection of Modernista architecture anywhere. It is possibly best known as the home of Antoni Gaudi, Barcelona’s most famous architect. He was the flag bearer of the late 19th century Modernista style of architecture. Probably his most famous building is the unfinished church the “Sagrada Familia”.
Barcelona is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Catalonia, as well as the second most populous municipality of Spain.
